Munro Respiratory Services provides mandatory silica awareness training for businesses across NSW, supporting industries including mining, drilling, quarrying, tunnelling, construction, demolition, stone masonry, stone fabrication, hydraulic fracturing, exploration, manufacturing, and foundries. Since 1 September 2024, NSW Work Health and Safety Regulation requires all workers involved in processing or at risk of exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) to complete approved training. The training is delivered by experienced trainers and covers all 11 criteria required for compliance, including identifying RCS health risks, recognising the signs and symptoms of silicosis, interpreting safety data sheets, understanding respiratory protective equipment (RPE) requirements under AS/NZS 1715:2009, and WHS Regulation requirements for silica risk control plans and air monitoring. Sessions run for approximately one hour and are available on-site or remotely, with training records issued on successful completion. Silica awareness training is a one-off requirement per worker, though records must be retained for the duration of employment in high-risk roles and for five years after. Munro Respiratory Services can also bundle silica awareness training with respiratory fit testing on the same day, helping businesses meet both obligations efficiently. Munro Respiratory Services delivers on-site respirator fit testing for businesses across NSW, supporting industries including mining, drilling, quarrying, tunnelling, construction, demolition, stone masonry, stone fabrication, hydraulic fracturing, exploration, manufacturing, and foundries. Under the NSW WHS Regulation, workers exposed to silica dust and other hazardous airborne particles must be fit tested before first use and every 12 months after. Two types of fit testing are offered: qualitative fit testing (QLFT), a pass/fail assessment using a bitter-tasting test agent, typically used for half-face respirators such as P2 and N95 masks; and quantitative fit testing (QNFT), which uses the AccuFit 9000 Pro to measure particle concentration and generate a precise fit factor score, often used for full-face respirators or where a higher level of accuracy is required. Each fit test takes approximately 15 minutes per person and is conducted entirely on-site. Fit test certificates are issued digitally, and automated reminders are sent ahead of each worker's next annual test, helping businesses stay compliant without the administrative burden. Pricing starts from $100 per person (excl. GST), with a day rate available for groups of 30 or more, and travel costs for face-to-face sessions quoted separately.
